What to do if you get sick or injured

Who can apply? This insurance is designed for visitors to Canada and foreign workers. It also protects immigrants and Canadians returning to Canada after living abroad who are awaiting provincial health plan coverage.

This insurance meets all requirements for super visa for parents & grandparents visiting Canada, if amount of medical coverage is  $100,000 or greater and period of coverage is one year.


What coverage will you have?

This plan includes :

    Emergency medical & hospital insurance :

     Amount of medical coverage is available in increments of $10,000  up to a maximum of $300,000

   Air Flight Accident  (up to $25,000)

   24-Hour Accident Insurance (up to $25,000).


Age. The applicant has to be over the age of 14 days old and has not reached the age of 90 years at the time of application.


Deductibles. This insurance has no deductible. However, the Insured can choose to add one of the following  deductible options $500, $1,000, $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 and receive a discount of 10%, 20%, 30%, 35%, 45% on the premium respectively. (Minimum Premium per policy is $20.)


Period of Coverage

Coverage commences:

     a) on the date of departure from your country of permanent residence provided premium is paid in full prior to departure from your country of permanent residence and provided the total trip length between departure from your country of permanent residence and arrival in Canada does not exceed seven (7) days;  OR,

    b) if the Policy is purchased after arrival in Canada, on the effective date as shown on the application  subject to the waiting period requirements.

Coverage terminates on the earliest of the following:

     a) at 12:00 Midnight on the expiry date as shown on the application/declaration; OR,

    b) on the day you obtain immigrant or refugee status from the Government of Canada and become eligible for or insured under the government health care plan of the province or territory in which you reside.


Waiting period. No waiting period if purchased prior to the arrival date in Canada.

If this policy was purchased within 60 days after your arrival in Canada, then in respect of any sickness you will only be entitled to receive benefits for the cost of eligible medical expenses incurred after the first 48 hours from the effective date of this policy.

If this policy was purchased 61 days or more after your arrival in Canada then in respect of any sickness you will only be entitled to receive benefits for the cost of eligible medical expenses incurred after seven (7) days from the effective date of this policy.


Family plan is available, if all family members are under 61 years of age. (see Rates).


Authorized Extensions to Period of Coverage

You can extend your period of coverage before your policy expires by calling your broker or TuGo during general business hours. You must meet the following conditions:

a. You have not seen a physician since your arrival date in Canada or the effective date of your Policy;

b. You have not submitted a claim and have no intent to submit a claim;

c. You are in good health;

d. Your period of coverage has not already expired.


Automatic Extensions to Coverage

This Policy, after termination of any one period of coverage, will be automatically extended:

a. for 72 hours in the event a delayed common carrier prevents you from returning to your country of

permanent residence;

b. if you are hospitalized during the term of this Policy, for the period of hospital confinement plus 72 hours after release for you to travel home.



A full refund is available:

a. When no travel has taken place and the request for refund is received PRIOR to the effective date of the Policy.

b. When no travel has taken place and the request for refund is received AFTER the effective date of the Policy:

●  A full refund is available within 10 days of the application date; or,

●  A refund less an administration fee is available when the request for refund is received more than 10 days after the application date but no later than 30 days after the effective date and prior to the expiry date of the Policy.

A partial refund is available if:

a. You return to your country of permanent residence and a minimum term of 45 days remains unused on the Policy; or,

b. You become eligible and/or covered under a provincial or territorial government health care plan during the period of coverage.

A satisfactory proof of return to country of permanent residence or proof of the date you became eligible and/or covered under a provincial or territorial government health care plan, is sent to TuGo.

Refunds are not available if a claim has been or will be submitted.


Travel worldwide : Travel worldwide is valid as long as the majority of time is spent in Canada. No coverage provided while in home country.

Up to $3,000 for pregnancy, childbirth or complications during the 9 weeks prior to expected delivery date,  if pregnancy commenced during period of coverage


Up to $4,000 for accident

Up to $600 for dental pain

Emergency air transportation

Up to sum insured for air evacuation or airfare back to Canada or country of residence for treatment and medical attendant.

Child care

Up to $50 per day to a maximum of $500 for child care costs (excluding child care provided by a Family Member) in the event You are confined to Hospital


Up to $12,000 for repatriation

Family transportation

One return economy airfare or ground transportation costs and up to $100 per day for meals and accommodation.

Return of insured traveling companion

One-way economy airfare back to point of departure if insured is repatriated or returned to the country of permanent residence under  Emergency Air Transportation benefit

Pre-existing medical conditions

   For persons 69 years and under, pre-existing conditions are covered if stable in the 120 days prior to the effective date of this policy.


  For persons 70 to 79 years, pre-existing conditions are not covered; however coverage for pre-existing conditions can be purchased.

The applicant can purchase an additional optional coverage to cover pre-existing conditions provided they were stable in the 120 days prior to the effective date of the policy. A 25% surcharge will apply.


  For persons 80 to 89 years, pre-existing conditions are not covered.



  The company does not pay for medical expenses if a trip is undertaken:
     a) against a Physicians advice; or, b) after diagnosis of a Terminal Condition.

What to do in the case of emergency.

Have your policy number or policy confirmation with you at all times. In the event of sickness or injury which may result in claim, contact Claims at TuGo at the telephone numbers shown on your policy confirmation and the Policy Wording (pg. 4).  When contacting Claims at TuGo, please provide your name, your policy number, your location and the nature of your emergency.

In the event of hospitalization, call Claims at TuGo immediately.

To apply for benefits under this policy, you will need to send a completed claim form (with all original bills attached) to Claims at TuGo. Visit  Claims at TuGo for the claim form and to submit your claim online.
