• be an accompanying dependent under 40 of an eligible student; and • be currently in good health; and • be insured or eligible for benefits under the government health insurance plan of the province or territory in which you reside.
Student means a person: a) who regularly attends school, college, university, or other accredited educational institution; and b) who is enrolled in a minimum of 60% of the usual course requirements for the program in which they are enrolled; or c) who remains in their country of study for up to 60 days immediately after completion of studies as described under a) and b) of this definition.
WHAT COVERAGE WILL YOU HAVE?
Period of coverage
Your coverage commences on latest
of the date indicated as the
effective date on
your confirmation of coverage, or you
depart from your home country. • the expiry date indicated in the application; or • 365 days after the effective date of the policy; or
• you no
longer meet this policy's definition of
student; or • if you are a Canadian, the date you are no longer covered by a government health insurance plan; or • the date you cease to be a spouse or dependent as defined in this policy.
Waiting Period During the waiting period, premiums are paid, but sickness manifested itself during this period is not covered. Waiting period is the 48-hour period following your effective date of insurance if you purchased this policy: • after your arrival date in your country of study; or • after the date your existing Destination: Plan expires; or • after the date any other existing health insurance coverage expires. Any sickness that manifests itself during the above waiting period is not covered even if the related expenses are incurred after the waiting period. No waiting period for injuries.
Travel worldwide This policy will pay for eligible costs during the period of coverage, while you are travelling worldwide, provided you spend at least 51% of the period of coverage in your country of study. Coverage will be provided during school breaks as long as the insurance is in effect during these periods. Medical expenses will not be covered while you are in your home country
Refund Full refund will be provided for policies which are returned within 10 days of purchase and requested in writing prior to the effective date of coverage. Refunds are payable when: • The student fails to meet visa entry eligibility requirements. • The student is no longer enrolled in a school within the country of study. No refunds are available, if claim has been or will be submitted. An administration fee may apply.
Extensions If you decide to apply for additional coverage after you have left your province or territory of residence, you may apply for a new term of coverage if you: a) purchase additional coverage before the expiry date; and b) are in good health; and c) have no reason to seek treatment during the new term of coverage. If you have incurred a claim, he insurer will review your file before deciding on granting a new term of coverage. Each policy or period of coverage is considered a separate contract and all limitations and exclusions will apply
Automatic Extension of Coverage Your coverage will be automatically extended beyond the expiry / return date shown on your confirmation: • If your common carrier is delayed, for up to 72 hours. • If you have an emergency that prevents travel but does not require hospitalization, for up to 5 days. • If you are hospitalized on your return date, during hospitalization and for up to 5 days after hospital discharge.
Summary of Benefits
Exclusions and Limitations. Student medical insurance does not cover everything. This insurance has exclusions, conditions and limitations. Please read them and understand the policy before you buy this insurance.
A Pre-Existing Medical Condition exclusion may apply to a medical condition and/or symptoms that existed prior to your trip. This policy will not pay any expenses or benefits relating to a pre-existing condition that was not STABLE in 90 days prior to the effective date of the policy. STABLE means all of the following apply: • there have not been any new symptom(s); and • existing symptom(s) have not become more frequent or severe; and • a physician has not determined that the medical condition has become worse; and • no test findings have shown that the medical condition may be getting worse; and • a physician has not provided, prescribed, or recommended any new medication or any change in medication; and • a physician has not provided prescribed or recommended any investigative testing, new treatment or any change in treatment; and • there has been no admission to a hospital or referral to a specialty clinic or specialist; and • a physician has not advised referral to a specialist or further testing, and there has been no testing for which the results have not yet been received.
Some other exclusions: Benefits are not payable for costs incurred due to: • !!! Any loss incurred in a city, region, or country when prior to the effective date, the Canadian Government issued a warning to avoid all travel, or to avoid non-essential travel to that city, region, or country, and such injury or sickness is due to, contributed to by, or resulting from the reason for the warning. • Any pre-existing medical condition or any related conditions for which, prior to your arrival date in Canada or country of study, you had, were scheduled or recommended for a medical consultation for the purpose of establishing a diagnosis, and for which results had not yet been received at the time of departure from your country of origin. • Medical treatment or medical condition originating while visiting your home country

Any treatment,
investigation or hospitalization which exceed 30 days following
the initial day that outpatient treatment began, unless approved
in advance by the Assistance Centre.

Outbound students studying outside of Canada
a) any unmarried children residing with you, who are more than 15 days of age and age 25 or under and dependent upon you for their sole means of support; and b) your parent, stepparent, legal guardian, brother, sister, stepbrother, or stepsister who are living with the student while in the country of study. Dependents are covered only when dependent coverage is selected and paid for at the time of application.
